Internship | Lu Raquel

Internship

Description

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho | June- August 2015

Bridal Fashion Design Intern has responsibilities of a design assistant. This includes being a part of a team that takes design calls with clients, helps develop gown packets by sketching renderings, flats, developing final spec sheets, and collages of example images. Design assistants also correspond with partners to set up design meetings, ask clarifying questions, and relay weekly updates. Creative drawing and painting is done for gowns, and promoting social media, interacting on Lu Raquel’s social media platforms, and posting fun and interesting posts. Intern also was responsible for coming up with design concepts for the Lu Raquel Spring 2016 Collection. Original design concept done by Rachael Wescott for the boho style dress "Brynn" is currently being sold by Lu Raquel and was featured at New York Bridal Fashion Week at MMPI in Lu Raquel's booth. Final project with Lu Raquel entailed designing a gown from beginning to end, with gown packet development, sketches, and flat work.

What I

Learned

As a Bridal Fashion Design intern, I learned how to be part of a design team. I learned how to take instruction from the design team lead, while also giving my input when it was requested and needed. The design team members and I all worked our hardest to create a well functioning team that uplifted all of its team members and provided wonderful customer service. I also learned how to take orders from bridal boutique owners who requested custom designer gowns. These orders included creating renderings, flats and spec sheets; all of which I had to learn how to complete in the way that Lu Raquel required. I learned how to create design concepts for a new line and how to work in a team to make the entire line cohesive. I also learned how to implement social media marketing by using my Photoshop and photography skills to create social media posts that would catch our customer's attention.

Original Design

The most important  experience that I gained from my internship was designing a gown and seeing it come to life in New York. Brynn is the gown on the left that I designed with Lu Raquel for their Spring 2016 Collection. The far left picture shows the gown being displayed at Lu Raquel's booth at MMPI for New York Bridal Fashion Week on the mannequin on the right.

Final Project

My final project with Lu Raquel consisted of putting everything that I had learned at my internship into one complete project. I first researched trends and created a concept board. Then I created first and second draft renderings for the gown. Once the renderings were finished I looked at the fabrics we had at our manufacturer and used them to create my spec sheet for the gown. The final task was to create a digital rendering using Photoshop and my original second draft rendering for "Ella".
